Eastern Cape Branch

The IWMSA's Eastern Cape Branch invites you to join us for a tour of The Grass Roof on Friday, 12 May 2017 at The Grass Roof Farm Stall and Coffee Shop, Port Elizabeth.

Judge each day by the seeds that you plant

Since opening its doors in 2013, The Grass Roof Coffee Shop and Farm Stall on Olive Tree Farm has become something of a Port Elizabeth landmark. Due to its unique feature, a pitched roof covered with grass and wildflowers, you may think that your eyes are deceiving you when you drive down Seaview Road, but that is not the case!

The owners, Nicky and Mike Charliewood, have created a cheerful café and farm stall experience that captures the laid-back beach atmosphere that Port Elizabeth is justifiably famous for. On the weekends, children play outside on the lawn while parents catch up over coffees in the courtyard. On windy afternoons, customers retreat indoors to savour the warmth from Grass Roof’s indoor fireplace.

Located just a few kilometres from Sardinia Bay on the corner of Heron and Seaview Road, Grass Roof offers a varied menu that promises hearty and delicious country meals, from breakfast comforts to lunchtime favourites.

The tour will include the following:

  • Tour of the premises and gardens by Mike Charliewood, including gardening and composting guidelines.
  • Breakfast pizza - lightly sprinkled with cheese, including the 'full breakfast' toppings and finished in a wood-fired oven.
  • Homemade lemonade.
